MANILA, Philippines – ESPN SportsCenter host Keith Olbermann indirectly called President Rodridgo Duterte “garbage” in a tweet, relating the Philippines’ Chief Executive to his order of shipping the trash back to Canada.

Olbermann, an American sports and political commentator, reacted to a breaking tweet by CNN Philippines which drew flak and comical responses from Filipino netizens.

Last Wednesday, May 22, Duterte ordered government officials to look for a private shipping company that would dump the trash within Canada’s territorial waters if the country refuses to accept the garbage.

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said that Duterte was “outraged”  by Canada’s failure to meet his May 15 deadline for the return of the container vans of trash.

However, Canada’s minister of environment and climate change, Catherine McKenna, assured the Philippines that Canada will shoulder the expenses of shipping out 69 container vans of garbage by the end of June

The garbage issue began in 2013 when 1,300 tons of waste materials were illegally shipped by Ontario-based company Chronic Incorporated to the Philippines. (READ: TIMELINE: Canada garbage shipped to the Philippines)
