The trailer for the 11th season of the zombie action-drama series The Walking Dead is out, giving viewers a glimpse of some big fights and walker-killing sprees ahead of its premiere on August 22.

During a panel for the San Diego Comic-Con at Home on Sunday, July 25, streaming platform and television company AMC dropped “the beginning of the end” full-length tease of its eleventh and final installment.

The three-minute clip shows fan favorites and central characters reprising their roles, such as Daryl Dixon, Carol Peletier, Maggie Rhee, and Negan, as portrayed by Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, respectively.

According to a Variety report, Michael James Shaw (Avengers: Infinity War) is also set to join the cast as Mercer, the leader of the Commonwealth military. Joining him are Laila Robins (The Boys) as Governor Pamela Milton, Josh Hamilton (Dark Skies) as Lance Hornsby, and Margot Bingham (Saturday Church) as Stephanie.

Prior to the trailer release, The Walking Dead has also started a thread of images and details about season 11 on Twitter. Each post featured more information about the characters in the upcoming season.

The Walking Dead season 11 was originally slated to air in 2020 but due to the pandemic, the production was halted and its airing, rescheduled. AMC announced in September 2020 that the show will end after 11 seasons.

Season 11 will be aired in three parts, each with eight episodes each for a total of 24 episodes. The second and third parts of the series’ final season are scheduled for a 2022 release, with exact dates to be announced.

The Walking Dead released its first season in October 2010 and is based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, and Tony Moore of the same name. A critically-acclaimed show, it has been nominated for a handful of awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series.

An untitled spin-off series, which will focus on the stories of Daryl and Carol, is also in the works for a 2023 premiere. It is co-created by Angela Kang and Scott Gimple. – with reports from Paolo Alejandrino/Rappler.com
