ABS-CBN, GMA news websites inaccessible
(4th UPDATE) Both ABS-CBN and GMA's websites appear to be back in action as of 3 pm.

The news websites of Philippine broadcast giants ABS-CBN and GMA-7 were temporarily inaccessible on Thursday, September 3, for still undetermined reasons.

Error notices came up when Rappler visited both websites at 8:46 am on Thursday.

A check made by Rappler showed that as of 9:31 am, the ABS-CBN site was accessible via Safari and gadgets with VPN.

For some users, both websites displayed “this page is under construction,” while for others, the websites showed the message “your connection is not private.”

The two sites appear to have been down since around Thursday midnight, based on people’s tweets. ABS-CBN and GMA have yet to comment on the matter.

The sites were primarily inaccessible via Smart, Globe, and Converge while some Sky Broadband users were able to only access ABS-CBN’s site and not GMA’s.

Using a VPN, the ABS-CBN site was accessible in countries Rappler tested including Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, USA, United Kingdom, France, Russia, and Australia. GMA was inaccessible from those countries except Taiwan.

At around 11 am, the ABS-CBN website became accessible again. As of 1:15 pm, GMA’s news website remains inaccessible.

In a statement, ABS-CBN said it detected a “technical problem” and is looking into the matter.

“While we have resolved the issues and restored the sites, some users may still encounter problems but should be able to access them within the next 24 hours,” ABS-CBN said.

“We are working with our partners in investigating the cause of the incident,” it added.

GMA’s website, meanwhile, appears to have been brought back up by around 3 pm.
