MANILA, Philippines – Years after the last time they teamed up, Sharon Cuneta and Richard Gomez reunite in Star Cinema’s latest family offering Three Words to Forever, a story that tests the relationship of family members. (LOOK: A Sharon Cuneta-Richard Gomez reunion movie is in the works)

At the press conference of the movie last November 22, the two were asked about their thoughts on marriage. Richard said: “To many, ang dali-dali magpakasal (it’s easy to get married) nowadays. But to a lot of people, to a lot of my friends, especially the close ones, pag nagtatanong sila sa akin (when they ask me), what do you think about marriage, I always tell them ‘if you’re not 100% sure to be married to this person, do not marry. Because it won’t get better.'”

“Pag nagpakasal ka, 100% dapat. Walang question sa isip mo na ‘ah kasi ganito…’ When you get married, 100% committed ka talaga sa pakakasalan mo.”

(When you get married, it should be 100% sure. No questions in your mind like ‘I wish it was this…’ When you get married, you should be 100% committed to the person you’ll marry.)

Richard and Sharon were once lovers in real life. Richard, Ormoc City mayor, is now married to Lucy Torres, who represents the city in the House of Representatives. They have a daughter, Juliana, 18.

Sharon, meanwhile, is now happily married to Senator Francis Pangilinan with whom she has 4 children, including KC, Sharon’s daughter with Gabby Concepcion. (TIMELINE: The men in Sharon Cuneta’s life)

Co-star Joross Gamboa added: “Tandaan natin (Let’s remember) that marriage is not a contract. It is a covenant with God.”

Kathryn Bernardo, who plays the daughter of Richard and Sharon in the movie, said you’ll “feel it” when you and your partner are ready to settle down.

“Paano masasabi? Mararamdaman mo iyan feeling ko pag ready ka na. Ready na yung partner mo. Kasi iba’t ibang age tayo maging ready pasukin ang marriage.”

(How can you tell? You feel it when you’re ready, when you’re partner is ready. Because different people might be ready for marriage at different ages.)

“For me, ‘pag nakikita mo yung buhay mo na ginagawa mo na kasama yung tao na iyon, kapag hindi mo makita yung future na wala siya, and kung nakita mo pag nandoon yung respeto sa isa’t isa, that’s really important.”

(For me, if you see your life doing things with that person, if you can’t imagine a future without him, and if you see there’s respect for each other, that’s really important.)

Ready for KC’s wedding

Sharon was asked if she’s ready if KC plans to marry boyfriend Pierre Emmanuel Plassart.

“Ready na ako magbihis eh,” Sharon said.

“Pero parang relaxed lang yung anak ko, which I’m very happy about actually seriously. That’s she’s not in a rush, not pressured, and that’s she’s just enjoying ever moment of happiness that she spends with Pierre.”

(I’m ready to dress up. But my daughter is taking it easy.)

Sharon said that Pierre is definitely perfect for KC, describing the two as having their own world.

In Three Words to Forever, Rick and Cristy (Richard and Sharon) have issues with their marriage. Their daughter Tin (Kathryn), meanwhile, annnounces she’s getting married to her boyfriend Kyle (Tommy Esguerra), while Cristy’s parents are set to renew their vows.

As they approach the big day, all of them begin to question if staying together is worth it.

Three Words to Forever also stars Freddie Webb, Liza Lorena, and Joross Gamboa.
