Iza Calzado gets emotional during teleserye presscon: ‘I am really grateful to be alive’
‘This is most probably the most meaningful birthday in my life,’ says Iza, who recovered from the coronavirus early this year

MANILA, Philippines – Actress Iza Calzado turned emotional on Friday, August 7 as the press and her co-stars in the new teleserye Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin greeted her a happy birthday during the online presscon for the show.

Iza turns 38 on Wednesday, August 12.

“I was completely caught off guard,” Iza said, as she tried to control her emotions. “I’m sorry I don’t want to hijack this presscon, this is not about me but then this is most probably the most meaningful birthday in my life thus far.”

The actress thanked everyone for greeting her, saying: “I am grateful to be alive.”

In March, Iza was hospitalized after being diagnosed with pneumonia. Her manager Noel Ferrer confirmed days later that the actress tested positive for the coronavirus. She was discharged from the hospital on March 31 after testing negative for the virus.

During the presscon, Iza was asked how she felt that the teleserye, which also stars Jodi Sta Maria, Maricel Soriano, and Sam Milby, was finally going to air on television after it was delayed due to the pandemic and ABS-CBN shutdown.

I think, kung tinatanong mo ako kung anong pakiramdam ko na nangyayari na ito, sa totoo lang, napakagrateful ko.

(I’m grateful.)

The fact na nag-uusap tayo ngayon, the fact na nandito pa ako ngayon, is something I am grateful for every day, apart for this show being given a green light,” Iza said.

(The fact that you’re talking to me now, that I’m still here is something I am grateful for every day, apart for this show being given a green light.)

Parang ang daming pinagdaanan ng show, ang dami nating pinagdaanan lahat Pilipino, and personally, medyo mahirap hirap din iyong pinagdaanan ko earlier this year.”

(The show has been through a lot, every Filipino has been through a lot and personally, I’ve been through a lot this year.)

She also talked about how the cast reacted upon hearing the news that the show will be the first teleserye to be launched in ABS-CBN’s new platform.

Kapag inisip talaga naming lahat, minsan, I think pinag-usapan namin sa town hall meeting namin sa show, within the cast, na parang we have been parang chosen by God to do this, parang ganun, e. Ganun yung pakiramdam tapos kami pa yung una ngayon sa bagong platform natin.” ” she said.

(We thought about it, I think we discussed this in a town hall meeting of our show, within the cast, that it seems we were chosen by God. That was the feeling, especially since we’ll be the first on this new platform.)

So I am beyond grateful, it’s a mixture of parang we went through so many challenges kaya siguro talagang ramdam na ramdam namin yung magandang feedback.

(So I am beyond grateful, it’s a mixture of having to go through so many challenges, which is probably why we felt so overwhelmed by the good feedback.)

Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin premieres on the Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online on August 17. – Rappler.com
