Tickets to Coldplay's Manila concert are sold out – this is announced a day after they are made available for sale to the public

MANILA, Philippines – Tickets to the highly anticipated Manila concert of British group Coldplay are now sold out.

The news was announced on Friday, November 25, by Rhiza Pascua of concert promoter MMI Live and by SM Tickets.

Tickets for the concert started to sell online and over the counter at 10 am on Thursday, November 24. However, many fans found they could not get through to the SM Tickets site at that time.

Rappler checked the website every hour until 5 pm and eventually got through to the website, but not to the page where fans could buy the Coldplay concert tickets.

Fans who arrived at various outlets around 9:30 am continued to wait in line as of 4:30 pm, according to tweets online. Rappler was at SM North EDSA, where we talked to dedicated fans in line, some of whom cut class or took a day off from work to try their luck at tickets. No regrets for Coldplay, they said.

One fan, 28, told Rappler she filed for a half-day leave in order to get her Bronze or General Admission ticket. But when things took longer than usual, she didn’t hesitate to take the day off her job in manufacturing. “Since unexpected, whole day na ako nag-leave,” she said.

Another fan, a 23-year-old law student, skipped class to try and get his tickets at the same mall. When we talked to him, he had already been waiting for over 6 hours.

“I’ve been here since 10, I skipped class. I have final exams in two weeks time, but it’s Coldplay, it’s once in a lifetime.”

“No regrets.”

At SM North EDSA, a customer service officer told Rappler that there were “system downtime” and “system congestion” which led to the delay, and that other branches experienced similar problems.

At the same mall, they handed out mints and coffee candies and laid out chairs for fans who had been standing for hours.

A tweet from MMI’s Rhiza Pascua also said that the system experienced problems.

And while some fans expressed their disappointment on social media, others celebrated about getting their tickets:

There were pre-sales for Globe users on November 20 at 10 am to 9 pm and for Citibank card users on November 21 to 22.

Coldplay’s concert will be held at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds on April 4, which has a reported capacity between 30,000 to 80,000 people.

The group’s “A Head Full Of Dreams Tour” started in March of 2016. Aside from the Philippines, Coldplay is also set to visit Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan in 2017. – Rappler.com
