Kanye West accused of using The Pirate Bay to torrent

MANILA, Philippines – Recently, Kanye West’s Twitter rants have been setting the Internet abuzz – whether it be asking Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to fund him for his supposed $53 million debt, or launching a tirade against Taylor Swift concerning a The Life of Pablo track.

He was working on the follow-up to The Life of Pablo, Turbo Grafx 16, and tweeted a screenshot of his progress – captioned “Day 3.” At the time, he was listening to folk singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens’ “Death with Dignity” from the album Carrie and Lowell on YouTube.

Twitter users, including music producer Deadmau5 (real name: Joel Zimmerman), were quick to notice the rapper’s open browser tabs. One of the tabs was for a waveform synthesizer software called Serum by Xfer Records (which the producer co-founded), right beside The Pirate Bay, a popular file sharing or torrent site, and MediaDownloader.

Music website Consquence of Sound commented, “Putting two and two together, one would assume Kanye ripped Sufjan’s song ‘Death With Dignity,’ which he then used to create a beat on the Serum software.”

Deadmau5 replied to Kanye’s tweet, “What the f*ck, Kanye West… can’t afford Serum?”

What the fuck @kanyewest... Can't afford serum? Dick. pic.twitter.com/8B2aiyORZs — deadmau5 (@deadmau5) March 2, 2016

Referencing Kanye’s claim to be $53 million in debt, he continued, “Let's start a Kickstarter to help Kanye West afford a copy of Serum. He needs a small loan of 200$ #prayforyeezy.”

Serum is currently priced at $189 (approximately P8900).

Deadmau5 later posted a link to a GoFundMe campaign which intended to raise $200 for Kanye West.

Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee quickly responded to Deadmau5’s call.

Kanye later responded to Deadmau5’s tweets, although without directly addressing the complaint. In a series of tweets, the rapper trolls the music producer and DJ by referring to his onstage outfit, which resembles the Disney character Mickey Mouse.

He tweeted, “Whose job is it to carry the head on the plane? Do you check the mickey mouse head or carry on? Does it get hot?”

Ars Technica UK reported that Kanye’s camp was mulling legal action against file sharing websites for distributing his latest album The Life of Pablo outside of Tidal.

Kanye previously announced that the album would be an exclusive for the fledgling music streaming service, which enjoyed a boost in app downloads soon afterwards. – Rappler.com
