MANILA, Philippines – Monday, May 13 isn't just election day in the Philippines – it also happens to be the birthday of Otso Diretso senatorial candidate and new father of two, Mar Roxas.

Mar's wife and avid supporter, Korina Sanchez-Roxas, took to Instagram to greet her husband a happy birthday amid the online election noise, also thanking him for all he's done for the country.

"Honey, bilib ako sayo! And I am in awe at what you’ve accomplished and contributed to the poor and to this country, ang dami," Korina wrote in her caption.

Roxas ran and lost in the 2016 presidential elections. He took a break from politics for over two years before declaring a senatorial bid. He saw his pre-election survey numbers slip, however, based on the latest poll results from Pulse Asia.

"I am very proud of you that you carried on and did the work without making a centavo for yourself; am so excited you may get this chance to serve again. I love you. Happy Birthday! #MisisNiMar," she ended her post.

Mar spent the wee hours of his birthday as an early bird voter, voting at his precinct in Baybay, Roxas City as soon as it opened at 6 am.

On his Twitter account, all he wished for his birthday is for "the country to have a peaceful and honest election."
