MANILA, Philippines – Actress-TV host Kris Aquino became emotional as her brother President Benigno Aquino III mentioned their parents during his 5th State of the Nation Address.
Kris, who was seated next to her other sisters, was seen wiping away tears after her brother mentioned their father the late Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr’s famous words “The Filipino is worth dying for.”
The senator was gunned down in 1983 after he returned from the United States.
The TV host shed tears when President Aquino mentioned that “The Filipino is worth living for. The Filipino is definitely worth fighting for.”
The president is currently facing an impeachment case.
During her evening show Aquino & Abunda Tonight Monday evening July 28, Kris explained that aside from the mention of their parents, she and her sisters also tried to control their emotions when the president talked about the risks of his job.
She even told her sister Ballsy that she did not “want to face his mortality."
“When someone can speak about going anytime, the risk of the job taiaga,” she said referring to the dangers her brother had to face as President.
She also said that the last words that the president mentioned were not in his original speech.
"Those last words that he said, they were not part of the speech, kaya talagang lalo kaming tinamaan, kasi we were not prepared to hear those words. Those were really his words…nag-deviate siya. Near the end, those were really his words," she said.
(Those last words that he said were not part of his speech, that’s why we were really hit, because we were not prepared to hear those words.)
Kris, who hosts Aquino and Abunda Tonight, Kris TV, and The Buzz, is scheduled to film Feng Shui 2 under Chito Roño for the Metro Manila Film Festival.
Meanwhile, netizens took to social media after seeing Kris in tears.
