MANILA, Philippines – Everyone experiences the need to love and be loved, which can bring a myriad of problems. Turn to the cast of the movie I'm Drunk, I Love You, as they have some advice for those who are going through romantic woes. (WATCH: Maja Salvador, Paulo Avelino in 'I'm Drunk, I Love You' official trailer)
At the press conference of the movie last January 31, the movie's lead stars Maja Salvador, Paulo Avelino, and Dominic Roco, as well as director JP Habac, shared their advice for the umaasa (hoping) and the paasa (giving false hope) when it comes to love.
"In general lang naman, 'di naman natin malalaman at first kung umasa ka or nagpapaasa ng tao. Basta importante totoo 'yung nararamdaman mo. Umamin ka man or aminan man, hindi ka magsisisi sa dulo kasi alam mo naman 'yung sinabi mo. Basta, make sure that it's genuine," Dominic said.
(In general, we really won't know at first if you're hoping to be loved or you're giving false hope to someone else. What's important is your feelings are true. Whether you profess true love or someone tells you they love you, you won't regret it in the end, because you know what you said. Just make sure that it's genuine.)
JP, meanwhile, said that when one does admit his or her feelings, they should really mean it.
Paulo, who plays Dio in the movie, has this to say to those who are hoping to be loved.
"Sa mga umaasa sabihin mo na, diretsuhin mo na [para] matapos na ang lahat kung umaasa ka pa rin or hindi," he said. (For those who are hoping, just say what you feel. Say it directly so you'll know whether to keep hoping or not.)
"Sa mga sinasadyang nagpaasa, hindi ko alam kung ano sasabihin ko," Paulo added. (For those who are giving false hope, I really don't know what to say.)
For Maja, who plays Carson – Dio's best friend who falls in love with him – it's normal to keep hoping, but one should know when to stop.
"Totoo naman iyon na kailangan mo maging honest sa sarili mo at sino man 'yung minamahal mo," Maja said. "Well, puwede naman umaasa kasi aasa ka naman talaga sa isang situwasyon, 'di ba? 'Pag umasa, sige umasa ka, pero may hangganan din 'yung pag-asa, 'yung ginagawa mo sa sarili mo, na pigilan mo 'yung sarili mo na umasa ng umasa."
(It's true that you have to be honest with yourself and whoever that person is you're loving. Well, you can hope because that's normal in any situation, right? If you want to hope, go ahead, but there's a limit to hoping, to what you're doing to yourself, and you have to stop yourself from continuing to hope at some point.)
"Hindi ka na lang puwede forever umasa. Dapat tanggapin mo na rin kung alam mo na wala rin naman talaga. 'Pag alam mo na talaga, move on ka na," the actress added.
(You cannot just hope forever. You also have to accept the truth when you already know nothing will happen. When you already know that it's futile, then move on.)
In I'm Drunk, I Love You, Carson and Dio go on a road trip to resolve their feelings for each other. The movie also features music from some of today's top musicians such as Ebe Dancel, Juan Miguel Severo, Kai Honasan, Ang Bandang Shirley, and more.
