MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) — Actor Morgan Freeman is facing accusations of sexual harassment and inapproriate behavior by multiple women who came forward to share their experience.
Sixteen women spoke to CNN about Freeman's inappropriate actions – 8 of them "victims of what some called harassment and others called inappropriate behavior by Freeman."
The investigation was triggered by harassment experienced by one of CNN's entertainment reporters at a press junket with Freeman.
Cases of harassment and inappropriate behavior were reported and corroborated by women working with Freeman on set, during promotions for his movies, and in his production company Revelation Entertainment.
"These 16 people together described a pattern of inappropriate behavior by Freeman on set, while promoting his movies and at his production company Revelations Entertainment," the CNN investigation by An Phung and Chloe Melas noted.
Freeman's spokeperson did not respond to CNN's request for a statement prior to publication.
After the CNN story was released, Freeman, through a representative, said he was not the kind of person who would "intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy." "I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent," he added.
Freeman, known for his roles in Driving Miss Daisy and Shawshank Redemption, was the recipient of the 2012 Cecil Be Demille award from the Golden Globes and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Million Dollar Baby. He also won the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. – Rappler.com
