Kean Cipriano sings about the people who get us through tough times in his latest single, “Make Me Fly,” which was released on September 16.

While the song was written two years ago, its message still rings true in pandemic times as the Callalily frontman sings about being on the verge of giving up, but pulling through with the help of a person.

The song is still very much an alternative rock track, but with a bass line and guitar riffs that lend it a bluesy-jazz feel – the better to temper the song’s unapologetically cheesy lyrics, with a repeated verse that goes “I know I couldn’t make it on my own/ I just need somebody who can make me, make me fly.”

Kean told Rappler in an interview that he wrote the song while randomly strumming a guitar in his home, and realizing that people really can’t achieve their dreams on their own.

“It’s basically a song na gusto ko rin i-dedicate sa lahat ng mga tao – cheesy as it may sound – sa mga tao o situation or memories, anything actually na I hold on to whenever I feel down. The goal is to uplift yung spirits ng makikinig,” he said.

“Make Me Fly” is available on Spotify and other digital platforms. It was released along with a music video, Kean’s first animated MV that he directed himself, with animation and editing done by AJ Abelardo.

The song, Kean’s third solo single, will be part of his upcoming solo album, which the musician is currently working on. – Rappler.com
