MANILA, Philippines – Actor Robin Padilla said that his birthday wish came true when Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte announced he was running for president next year.
In an interview with Rappler during his endorsement for Northern Cement Monday, November 23, Robin, who celebrated his birthday that day, said that he made that wish during a party his wife Mariel Rodriguez threw for him.
(That's my birthday wish. Mariel threw a party and there was a cake, and she asked me what my birthday wish was. I said, I hope he (Duterte) runs and becomes president of this country. That's for me because as of this time, my hands are already tied this time.)
Medyo lay low muna tayo. At harapin muna natin yung mga issues tulad ng baril," Robin said referring to his application for a license to carry firearms.
(If you've noticed, I'm not active in Instagram as well as Facebook because my lawyer asked me to keep quiet for now. We're laying low for the moment. And we're facing the other issues first such as the permit for guns.)
Last November 16, Robin, through his lawyer Rudolf Philip Jurado, asked the Philippine National Police to grant him a permit to carry guns, despite his conviction for illegal possession of firearms back in 1995. He was pardoned by President Fidel Ramos in 1998. (READ: Actor Robin Padilla asks PNP for license to carry firearms)
Robin is a known supporter of the Davao mayor. The action star even offered to make a biopic based on his life during a visit to the local official last October.
On Daniel's endorsement of Mar Roxas
Robin also shared his thoughts about nephew Daniel's decision to back administration standard-bearer Mar Roxas next year. Daniel, along with on-screen partner Kathryn Bernardo (together, they are KathNiel) are supporting the Liberal Party's standard bearer Mar Roxas.

Malaya tayong lipunan. Kanya-kanya tayong opinyon.
(DJ is old enough; he's 18. He'll make his own decisions. Whatever decision he makes, that's what he believes in, he should do it. This is a free country. We have our own opinions.)
Kaya mag-doble lang ingat si Daniel after nitong endorsement," Robin said.
(For me, what my nephew should remember is this is politics. And we should learn from what happened, and from the elders. It happened to me, I endorsed someone, we were sent to to jail because politics got mixed with showbiz. That's why Daniel should be extra careful after this endorsement.) – Rappler.com
