MANILA, Philippines – The trailer for the second season of The Umbrella Academy is out now, reuniting viewers with the Hargreeves siblings, who are now stuck in the 1960s, after time jumping to escape an apocalypse in 2019.
In the new season, some of them have rebuilt their lives and moved on, while others continue to struggle adjusting to their new environment. The new season follows them as they try to reunite, figure out what caused the apocalypse, and return to the present timeline, all while being hunted down by a trio of Swedish assassins.
The Umbrella Academy tells the story of infants who were all born on October 1, 1989 to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven of them are adopted by a billionaire who created The Umbrella Academy and prepared his children to save the world. After their father dies in mysterious circumstances, the children must work together to figure out what happened – despite clashing personalities and abilities, and the threat of a global apocalypse.
The series is based on the comic books created and written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, whose original song “Here Comes The End” is featured in the trailer. The books are illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics.
The show stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Emmy Raver-Lampman, and Justin H. Min.
It is produced by Universal Content Productions for Netflix, with Steve Blackman serving as executive producer and showrunner, and additional EPs Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Gerard Way, and Gabriel Bá.
The Umbrella Academy premieres on Netflix on July 31. – Rappler.com
