MANILA, Philippines – Have a fitness peg or heading to the gym this summer? Here are a few tips from your favorite stars.

Bridges of Love star Paulo Avelino said he makes time to work out even during his tapings. Paulo, a Century Tuna ambassador, shared how he keeps active.
“I try to work out as much as I can. I jog a lot and I go rock climbing,” he said at a press conference.
Paulo also said one does not have to go to a gym to keep fit necessarily. If you have a yoga mat or somethin similar, you can exercise anywhere.
“During lunch break I would do push-ups and sit-ups and I would eat after," he said.

Actress Jessy Mendiola meanwhile emphasized the importance of eating right. Jessy, who does yoga, boxing, and running, also said bringing a yoga mat along is very helpful.
“Bring a yoga mat with you. It’s very convenient. You really don’t have to go to the gym. You don’t have to bring weights just to work out. You can do explosive cardio exercises for 15 minutes and you would burn a lot [of calories],” Jessy said.
Actor and singer Elmo Magalona follows the 70-30 principle for fitness – 70% focus on diet, and 30% on exercise.
"I’m more focused on my diet because I really don’t have time to go to the gym. I am focusing on my responsibility as to what I can eat, what’s allowed to eat and maybe like what the good carbs are,” Elmo said.
James said that exercise isn't only about the gym. He also said that being active at a young age helps.
“I started with sports at a really young age. It gave me the foundation, to go to the gym. And I did swimming and maintained a diet,” James said.
“There are exercises that don’t require the gym. Like Paulo (Avelino), most of his exercises are about recreation. Rock climbing, running – you really don’t have to go to the gym.”

Iza is known for advocating a healthy lifestyle. She turns to dancing, Crossfit, pilates, tennis, and yoga to keep fit. She recently launched her dance video “Lebelap (Go Lang Nang Go).” The video features basic exercise movements, nutrition consultation, and dance movements one can follow at home.
"Karylle [Tatlonghari] once told me we have to stop blaming our past for the decisions that we make now. It really hit me because for the longest time, even in my mid-20s, I was making a lot of stupid decisions based on, “yan ’yung nakalakihan ko eh.” (what I grew up with.) All the decisions I’m making today I have the power to choose, so what choice am I going to make? For example, my body right now is the result of a month of clean eating. I haven’t had cake in a month. Imagine if I had normal dessert two to three times a week. Of course, I’m not going to look like this," Iza said.

Erwan knows what it feels like to be overweight. In a previous feature on Rappler, Erwan said he loves to eat, but it became his problem as well earlier on. He started to swim and be active, and focused on diets that worked for him.
Now lighter and leaner, Erwan keeps fits by running and also working out when he can. He also said that the food one eats is crucial.
"Once you're fit, that's when you need to start mitigating the food you eat with the sports you do. The more you are fit, the harder it is to maintain because your body is used to more activity,” Erwan said.

Anne credits her gorgeous physique to eating right and lots of exercise. In the April issue of Cosmpolitan Philippines, Anne said she is letting go of the ambition to be model-thin.
"Everyone goes through a stage of wanting to be thin. But my goal this year is to have the fittest body ever, which isn't necessarily being thin, it's being fit," she said.
She also makes the work out fun by doing it with friends such as Solenn Heussaff, boyfriend Erwan, Georgina Wilson, Luis Manzano, and Angel Locsin.

For Matteo, being fit is important as well as doing it right. In the April issue of Men's Health Magazine, Matteo, who is an active triathlete shared the importance of having a mentor in the sport.
"There are coaches no matter where you live. Ask anyone in triathlon –they'll recommend someone and you can start from there. It's very important in triathlon that you have a mentor because if you do it on your own, you won't be efficient. Get a coach and trust them. Follow their way," Matteo said. – Rappler.com
