MANILA, Philippines - On the 5th day of Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012, the crowd was blown away.
When a guy clad only in black underwear started to unzip his small denim body bag and pulled out a black vest, we knew something exciting was coming. And when he transformed his bag into one of the most stylish and sexiest jeans on a man even we have ever seen, we knew that designer Chris Jasler was out to show the fashion community that — with the right vision — denim can be as couture as the most couture gowns can be.
Melchor Guinto followed with eye-catching workwear that would take any achieving executive from day to night.
Philipp Tampus, meanwhile, showed that — even if he was (only) a runner-up in Project Runway Philippines — he can definitely hold his own, and he will stay true to his aesthetic of intricate bead designs and leave people wondering "How'd he do that?" A plus factor with Tampus is that he remains humble and low-key — a trait quite rare for people who have achieved fame and recognition in the world of fashion. Really.
Veejay Floresca thought of how else to present and wear the indigenous Filipino fabric pinya (pineapple); so he combined it with leatherette and sequins, in work wear, cocktail and red carpet designs that are perfect for the no-nonsense, power woman. His designs combine sexiness and authority; with them, you won't need big hair or heavy makeup. A simple pony with a clean face and red lips are enough to set the look going.
Grand Allure featured Aris Pico, Boyet Dysangco, Cherry Samuya Veric, Edgar San Diego, Fanny Serrano, Gil Macaibay, June Pugat, Luis delos Santos, Mitzi Quilendrino-Bustos and Popo Go. Serrano was a standout.
