Emmys 2017: Red carpet trend report

In a few of months, the Christmas party season will soon begin. Fashion retailers and labels are quick to pick up on the trends displayed at the Emmy Awards, ready to accommodate the public’s obsession with copying the latest celebrity looks. (READ: Emmys fashion 2017: Red carpet hits)

During the 69th Emmy Awards, it was very clear what trends stood out that actually have a very realistic possibility of trickling down to everyday people and which ones were a bust. (READ: Emmys fashion 2017: What were they thinking?!)

Silver Belles

There was a time that the mention of a fully-sequined silver gown would make women cringe, but it seems that this drag queen favorite is making a huge comeback. Although this is a very attractive and attention-grabbing look, it can also make the thinnest frames look bigger than they appear, so it is very important to chose a cut and style that flatters your figure. Paired with bright white accessories, this disco classic instantly gets an updated chic touch. (READ: All the beauty looks we loved at the Emmys 2017)

Black and White

There is probably no other combination that is as fail-proof as black and white.  The combination is everything that is elegant, classy and chic. However which way you mix it, black and white creates a clean, streamline look that flatters.

Go Green

Whether you are an environmentalist or not,  going green on the red carpet has been a choice that is gaining popularity. With the exception of a deep emerald green, there have been very few gowns in this color. Blame it on this year's Pantone color palette, designers have been experimenting with various shades of green and women seem to be responding positively.

They could bring Kermit as their date to the Emmy’s and be the best dressed couple.

A trend that always comes and goes and comes back again is metallics. It’s bright sheen makes it a tricky fabric to work with because it can add unsightly bulges to certain areas. But when a designer masterfully tames this element, it gives the wearers a strong presence. It takes a brave and confident woman to pull off the metallic trend on the red carpet. For most people, it is best to keep metallics restricted to bags, jewelry, shoes and other accessories if you really want to wear it.

Bold and Beautiful

Menswear can become boring for some guys if they constantly have to chose between shiny black, matte black, navy blue, or tan. For men who have personalities and fashion sense that transcend the ordinary, the black tux just won’t cut it.  Stand-up comedian Deon Cole, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Titus Burgess and pop culture and drag icon, RuPaul Charles, all decided to go with suits that featured bold patterns, colors, and fabrics.  Although this landed them in some people’s worst dressed list, I feel that their looks perfectly reflected their larger than life personalities.

Regardless of the current trends, it is most important that whatever fashion choices one makes should be an expression of yourself.  It has to make one more confident and feel more beautiful.  Because being you is a trend that will never go out of style. – Rappler.com
