MANILA, Philippines – At least 3 members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were killed on Saturday, August 27, during an encounter with government troops in Latih, Patikul, Sulu.
According to a press release from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), personnel from the Army's 10th Infantry Battalion encountered around 30 ASG fighters at around 10:15 am on Saturday.
The Army did not report any casualties and were able to recover two M-16 rifles and an M203 grenade launcher. The AFP said the 3 ASG members' bodies were brought away from the encounter site.
The ASG and the military also had an encounter on Friday, August 26, where 6 members of the bandit group were killed.
Over a span of two weeks, the AFP's Joint Task Force Sulu has captured two and killed 19 members of the ASG. High-powered firearms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were also seized during these operations. – Rappler.com
