BASILAN, Philippines – The re-elected barangay captain of Barangay Bato in Lamitan City, Basilan has been arrested in an early morning drug raid by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Saturday, June 30.
Village chief Adzhar "Omboc" Macrohon was caught allegedly keeping 6 sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine) with an estimated street value of P100,000 ($1,874.64)*, and unlicensed high-powered firearms and explosives. (READ: Barangay chairman bet in Basilan, 3 others killed in own home)
Cops said Macrohon was arrested following a complaint made through the police hotline 8888. Macrohon is included in the PDEA's controversial drug watchlist.
Authorities said they are also conducting surveillance operations against 10 other Basilan village leaders with possible drug ties.
Macrohon is now facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. – Rappler.com
