Sara Duterte to Tindig Pilipinas: No reason for President to be insecure

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Tindig Pilipinas, the opposition group that called President Rodrigo Duterte a "paranoid and insecure little man," got a tongue lashing from his daughter on Sunday, October 15.

"How can he be insecure when he is the President?" asked Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

In a statement, Duterte-Carpio slammed Tindig Pilipinas after it said the President is "losing his grip" for threatening to create a revolutionary government.

Last Friday, October 13, Duterte said the revolutionary government would be established once he senses that he would be ousted through a destabilization plot.

His daughter said on Sunday that "all his destabilization claims are from intel reports and reliable sources from inside the offices of the people identified with the opposition."

Despite this supposed plot, however, Duterte-Carpio said: "When you are the President, there is nothing that will make you feel insecure – not survey results or a person like Trillanes or a power-hungry group called Tindig Pilipinas."

The Davao City mayor was referring to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, one of her father's fiercest critics.

Since the 2016 campaign period, Trillanes has accused the Duterte family of having unexplained wealth. A complaint that the senator filed before the Office of the Ombudsman triggered the ongoing probe into the Duterte family's wealth. Trillanes also said the President's claim of a destabilization plot was fabricated as "an obvious diversion from his billion-peso bank accounts that were confirmed by the Ombudsman." (READ: AMLC's bank records on Duterte show P1-B flow of money – Ombudsman)

Last week, Duterte-Carpio also called out Trillanes and his fellow senators Francis Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros. She said these senators used to ask for her father's help during past campaign seasons.

Trillanes, in response, said he did not yet know then that Duterte was a "murderer and a thief." – Rappler.com
