Miting de avance day: Duterte, Roxas, Poe, Santiago hashtags trend

MANILA, Philippines – The country's presidential candidates made their final pitches to voters on Saturday, May 7, sparking a fresh round of discussions online.

As of 8:30 pm on Saturday, the last day of campaigning for the 2016 elections, hashtags for 4 out of the 5 presidential bets were trending on Twitter:

The hashtags for Duterte and Roxas have been trending since Saturday morning, while the hashtags for Santiago and Poe began gaining traction later in the day.

There was no trending hashtag for Vice President Jejomar Binay.

'DUTERTE GRAND RALLY'

As of 7:30 pm, the hashtag DUTERTE GRAND RALLY racked up over 81 million impressions, according to Rappler's social media analytics tool Reach. On Twitter, "impressions" means "the times a user is served a tweet in timeline or search results."

The hashtag had more than 13,000 unique authors, or the number of people who contributed to the conversation.

The biggest influencers on the topic were the Twitter accounts @OfficialDuterte (not the mayor's official account, but one that appears to be run by his supporters), @AKOSiDUTERTE (also not an official account), and @AskandCHAT.

'MAR ROXAS NATION'

Meanwhile, the hashtag MAR ROXAS NATION got more than 116 million impressions, also as of 7:30 pm. It had 3,775 unique authors.

The hashtags for Poe – #Love4POE and Plaza Miranda (venue of her miting de avance) – got more than 428 million impressions as of 9 pm. These had 1,984 unique authors.

As for the hashtag #MIRIAMREDvolution, it received over 12 million impressions and had 3,045 unique authors as of 9 pm. This is almost the same number of authors as the conversation on Roxas despite trending much later in the day.
