MANILA, Philippines – On the evening of January 12, Saturday, checkpoints will be set up in each of the country's 143 cities and 1,491 municipalities to implement the gun ban, which will be in effect during the election period January 13 to June 12.
In areas regarded as "hot spots" or areas prone to violence and other threats to peace and order because of intense political rivalries, the highest ranking police or armed forces unit officer in the area may order the setting up of additional checkpoints. This is according to the checkpoint guidelines in the Commission on Elections' Resolution 9588.
