Duterte names Isko Moreno as DSWD undersecretary

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – President Rodrigo Duterte named former Manila vice mayor Isko Moreno, whose real name is Francisco Moreno Domagoso, as undersecretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Duterte also appointed Antonio Joselito Gabor Lambino II, also known as the singer Tony Lambino, as assistant secretary of the Department of Finance (DOF). 

Duterte signed their appointment papers on Tuesday, May 8. Malacañang released the documents to reporters on Wednesday, May 9.

Moreno was previously director, chairman, and chief executive officer of the North Luzon Railways Corporation (Northrail). He resigned in October 2017 due to personal reasons.

Moreno ran for senator in the 2016 elections, but lost. A popular actor with humble beginnings before he entered politics, he was Manila vice mayor for 3 terms. 

Lambino was previously head of public policy and associate director at Ayala Corporation, according to his profile on Bloomberg. He was also once the communications head of the International Rice Research Institute.

Lambino was a professional singer and songwriter with the multi-awarded band Smokey Mountain in the 1990s.

Duterte made two other appointments on Tuesday – Gerard Melocoton Camiña as board member of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, and Sherwin Smith Rigor as undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. – Rappler.com
