MANILA, Philippines – Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has formed a task force to oversee the collection and transport of solid waste in her city.
The mayor recently signed Executive Order No. 3, series of 2019 which formally created the Task Force on Solid Waste Collection, Cleaning, and Disposal Services Management. (READ: A zero waste lifestyle: How have other people done it?)
Belmonte herself is the chairperson of the task force.
A statement from the mayor said, the "task force will supervise and manage the collection and transport of solid wastes, as well as collection maintenance."
It would also recommend the waste collection service providers.
Apart from ensuring the proper disposal of solid waste in Quezon City, the task force will be coordinating with barangays as well as national government agencies to implement the prorgram.
Meanwhile, Belmonte is currently at New York, United States to attend the Mayors Migration Council (MMC) starting Saturday to Monday, July 15.
MMC was launched in December 2018 to serve as an avenue for local chief executives around the globe to discuss policies on refugees and migrants. The council is co-funded by the Open Society Foundations and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, in partnership with the Climate Cities. – Rappler.com
