Among the country’s 5 independent component cities, Dagupan City is the only one without a city police office. It currently has a police station.

The Sangguniang Bayan here has revived its 20-year-old request to the Philippine National Police (PNP) to upgrade its police station to a police office.

Councilor Celia Lim authored the resolution which was filed on Tuesday, July 15.

Of the country’s 5 independent component cities (ICC), only Dagupan City has yet to have a police office, said Dagupan City police chief Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr .

If the PNP grants the application for the upgrade, the city’s police force would increase from 124 to 600, he added.

“Our current maximum police personnel is only 124. If our request has been approved, the number would grow to 600,” Mangelen said.

Once Dagupan has a police office, the city plans to have 4 police stations, a tourist police station in the Bonuan area, and more mobile police.

The city currently has 6 police community precincts in the following barangays: Lucao, Mayombo, Bonuan Gueset, Barangay 2, Pantal, and Bolosan.

Once upgraded to a police office, the city police force will be headed by a police colonel. – Rappler.com
