Frontliners who are based in Makati but are not working for the city government will not be covered by the vaccination program

Makati City is giving free flu and pneumonia vaccines to 9,706 city government frontliners and essential workers to help boost their immune system during the coronavirus pandemic.

Mayor Abby Binay said on Wednesday, July 29, that the immunization program will prioritize city doctors, nurses, and other health personnel before other essential workers.

“By immunizing our frontliners and essential workforce against these two potentially deadly diseases of the respiratory system, we aim to strengthen their resistance to SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 infection,” Binay said in a statement.

Frontliners who are based in Makati but are not working for the city government will not be covered by the vaccination program.

Makati has already administered the trivalent flu vaccine to around 5,130 workers employed by the Makati Health Department, Veterinary Services Department, Department of Environmental Services, Makati Public Safety Department, Makati Action Center, Social Welfare Department, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Office of the Mayor, and Finance Department.

They will get their pneumonia shots next month.

Apart from the free vaccines, Makati has been providing its frontliners with free vitamins since the pandemic hit the Philippines.

Binay earlier signed an ordinance imposing health and safety measures to help quell the rising number of COVID-19 cases, including the mandatory use of face masks or other protective gear in public places.

She also authorized the release of P5,000 to each Makatizen and Yellow health cardholders in the city as part of Makati’s economic relief program.

A total of 85,000 public school students in Makati will get free learning modules and internet load from the city government to prepare them for distance learning in the upcoming school year.

Some 2,500 public school teachers, meanwhile, are set to receive free laptops and internet load from the city hall.

As of Tuesday, July 28, the country’s premier business district tallied 1,957 coronavirus cases, with 126 deaths and 913 recoveries.

Nationwide, the total number of coronavirus cases has already breached 85,000. – Rappler.com
