Minimum wage in parts of Metro Cebu up by P13

MANILA, Philippines – Minimum wage earners in Metro Cebu will get a P13-increase in their daily pay, after the wage board in Central Visayas acted on separate petitions for floor wage increases.

"From the current P340, minimum wage will become P353,” Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said on Wednesday, September 23.

The regional order mandating the P13-minimum wage hike is in effect and applies only to the private sector in Metro Cebu.

The order covers the cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Naga, Carcar, and Danao cities; and the municipalities of Compostela, Consolacion, Liloan, Cordova, Minglanilla, and San Fernando.

Members of the Cebu City-based Regional Wage Board arrived at a consensus on the amount of the increase, which is lower than the amounts in the wage hike petitions filed by the Alliance of Progressive Labor and Associated Labor Union-TUCP.

The order was issued after a series of wage consultations and public hearings. The floor wage hike is meant to cushion workers from the increase in prices of goods.
