Son of slain mayor Parojinog gets life term for drug possession

MANILA, Philippines – A Quezon City court has convicted the son of slain Ozamiz City mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr of illegal drug possession and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 79 Judge Nadine Jessica Corazon Fama ordered Reynaldo Parojinog Jr to pay a P500,000-fine.

“The prosecution was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that on Juy 30, 2017, the accused was in possession of more than 50 grams of shabu, a dangerous drug,” Fama said in her decision promulgated on Friday, May 31.

In August 2017, charges of illegal possession of firearms and drugs were filed against Parojinog Jr and his sister, former Ozamiz City vice mayor Nova Parojinog, before the Ozamiz City Regional Trial Court. (READ: The Parojinogs and the tangled webs they wove)
