246 priests, ministers want to carry firearms outside their homes – PNP

MANILA, Philippines – Some 246 priests and ministers asked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to allow them to carry firearms outside their homes.

This was announced by PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde in a press briefing on Wednesday, June 20.

Of the 246, Albayalde said 188 are priests and 58 are ministers.

The PNP has not released a breakdown of which churches the clergymen belong to.

They applied for a permit to carry firearms outside their residence (PTCFOR), which is different from the license to own and possess firearms (LTOPF).

This means the clergymen have possessed firearms before, and are now just requesting the PNP to allow them to bring their guns outside their homes. (READ: Bishops hit priests carrying guns amid killings)

The announcement follows the series of killings of priests in the country – Marcelito Paez, Mark Ventura, and Richmond Nilo– Rappler.com
