Sorsogon congresswoman Ditas Ramos tests positive for coronavirus

Sorsogon 2nd District Representative Maria Bernardita “Ditas” Ramos tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

House Secretary General Luis Montales announced this in a statement to reporters on Sunday, September 6.

“She developed symptoms and got tested in the province,” he said.

Ramos is the 8th member of the House of Representatives to become infected with the coronavirus, just a day after 1-Pacman Representative Eric Pineda announced that he also has COVID-19.

Aside from Ramos and Pineda, here are the other 6 House lawmakers who contracted the virus:

• Surigao del Sur 2nd District Representative Johnny Pimentel
• Sulu 1st District Representative Samier Tan
• Basilan Representative Mujiv Hataman 
• Senior Citizens Representative Francisco Datol Jr 
• Northern Samar 1st District Representative Paul Daza
• Cavite 6th District Representative Luis “Jon-Jon” Ferrer IV

Hataman already recovered while Datol died on August 10.

Also on Sunday, Montales said a congressional employee who last went to the Batasang Pambansa on Wednesday, September 2, was found to have COVID-19 too.

“She experienced chills, body pain, and fever after doing some work outside [the House] on September 3. Contact tracing is ongoing,” Montales added.

The House has recorded 69 coronavirus cases as of Sunday. Of these, 18 are still active.

“Let’s pray for the speedy and complete recovery of our confirmed cases,” Montales said.

As of Sunday, the Philippines’ total coronavirus cases stood at 237,365, with 184,687 recoveries and 3,875 deaths. – Rappler.com
