The Senate hearing comes as the country continues to be under community quarantine for nearly 3 months to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

President Rodrigo Duterte ordered a Metro Manila-wide lockdown on March 15, which was later expanded to the entire island of Luzon. Several provinces, cities, and municipalities in the Visayas and Mindanao followed suit, ordering localized lockdowns.

The community quarantine continues to challenge the healthcare system of the country, with the testing capacity of Philippine hospitals striving to keep up with the demand.
