3 dead in Zambo del Norte jailbreak

MANILA, Philippines – Three people were killed and 8 wounded following a jailbreak at the Siocon jail in Zamboanga del Norte on Friday night, August 29.

Siocon police on Saturday morning, August 30, said that an “undetermined number” of inmates escaped from their detention cell at the Bureau of Jail and Management Penology in Siocon (BJMP Siocon) at around 7:55 pm on Friday night.

Three people were killed during the shootout between authorities and the escapees: Jail Officer 1 Ryanbel Bagun, and inmates Ruel Humoc and Preciouso Humoc.

Eight people were wounded, including Police Officer 3 Romel Jay Hacuela, Police Officer 1 Paul Tombic, Jail Officer 2 Roldan Felizarta, and Jail Officer 1 Patric Galvez; and detainees Reneboy Humoc, Lito Magsayo, Rayllmark Cannonio, and Zenaid Insu.

Siocon police said manhunt operations jointly conducted by the jail and police authorities, with the help of adjacent Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces units, led to the arrest of all the escapees.

“After manhunt operations, all the escapees were arrested by the pursuing elements of BJMP and MPS of Siocon and all the wounded were brought to the
nearest hospital for medical attention,” the Siocon police said. – Rappler.com
