TIMELINE: Binay’s plunder case, one year after

MANILA, Philippines – Last year on this day, lawyer Renato Bondal and Nicolas "Ching" Enciso VI filed a complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman against Vice President Jejomar Binay for violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

The complaint was in relation to an overpriced contract for the multi-billion-peso Makati City Parking building II – described in the complaint as “the most expensive parking building in the entire country, if not the entire world.”

At the time, Binay was leading surveys as the top choice for the 2016 presidential elections.

The case filing was followed by numerous Senate blue ribbon committee hearings, an investigation by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), arrests and contempt citations, and other events.
