In remembrance of the late former president, Rappler looks back at some of the key moments of Noynoy Aquino's colorful political career that spanned for almost two decades

In his speeches, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino called Filipinos “mga boss ko” (my bosses) and rallied the government to a path of good governance fired up by his ‘Daang Matuwid’ battle cry.

He had big dreams for this nation. He died Thursday, June 24.

He was thrown into the presidency in 2010 by an electorate sick of corruption. It was a year after his mother, democracy icon and former president Corazon Aquino, died.

His biggest legacy, arguably, is when the Philippines took China to court over territorial issues in the West Philippine Sea.

But while Aquino initiated reforms for good governance during his term, his administration faced crises and controversies that eventually caused his trust and approval ratings to drop, just a year before he stepped down as president.
