MANILA, Philippines – Gary Gittelsohn, the manger of former world champion Brian Viloria, believes that Manny Pacquiao will pull off a lopsided victory over Floyd Mayweather in their much-awaited ring encounter on May 2 (May 3 in PH) at the 16,800-seater MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In an interview with Philippine Star’s Joaquin Henson, Gittelsohn made a bold prediction that Pacquiao will dominate Mayweather in 12 rounds as he assumes that the unbeaten American boxer will have a difficult time handling the Filipino fighter’s speed and power.
“I strongly believe Manny will win in a one-sided distance contest. I envision Mayweather going into a defensive shell, unable to deal with Manny's work rate,” he said.
However, he predicts that the mega fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather will not live up to the hype as both men have declined from their respective height of physical prime.
"Given the anticipation and build-up for this event, I think the fight itself will not contain the kind of fireworks people expect. Still, this will surely be Manny's crowning ring achievement," Gittelsohn stated.
Even though there is no rematch clause attached to the contract for the heavily-hyped confrontation, Gittelsohn stressed that a second meeting between this generation’s two decorated pugilists is more likely to happen.
“As for a rematch, I think it’s likely,” he quipped.
