Pacquiao, Vargas make weight for welterweight title clash

LAS VEGAS, USA - Manny Pacquiao, the challenger, stepped onto the scales and weighed 144.8 pounds, while the WBO welterweight champion, Jessie Vargas, checked in at 146.5 on Friday, November 4 for their 12-round title clash at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 knockouts) was all smiles as usual while Vargas (27-1, 10 knockouts) played to the crowd, many of whom are supporters of the Las Vegas-based fighter. Pacquiao, 37, is attempting to win the WBO welterweight belt for the third time in his career, and become the first sitting senator to win a boxing world title (not many have tried).

Pacquiao, perhaps unaccustomed to being the challenger instead of the champion, did not wait for Vargas' camp when he jumped on the scale. Though his last pay-per-view, a unanimous decision win over Timothy Bradley Jr in their third meeting, did not sell as well as previous Pacquiao fights, many Filipino fans still came out to support the 8-division champion.

The pay-per-view portion of the card begins at 6 pm Pacific time, or 9 am Manila time.

In one of the co-featured fights, WBO junior featherweight titleholder Nonito Donaire Jr (37-3, 24 KOs) of San Leandro, California weighed in at 121.8 while his mandatory challenger Jessie Magdaleno (23-0, 17 KOs) of Las Vegas weighed 121.25. Donaire, 10 years older at 34, is making the second defense of the title he won last year with a tough decision win over Cesar Juarez in Puerto Rico.
