MANILA, Philippines – The Ultimate Fighting Championship has found a willing dance partner for Urijah Faber as the former two-division titleholder is set to cross paths with highly-touted bantamweight Frankie Saenz at the UFC 194 pay-per-view event on December 13 (December 12 in US).
The fight booking was revealed during the broadcast of FOX Sports Live on Friday, September 4 (PH Time).
Faber (32-8) has not competed since dropping a five-round verdict to Frankie Edgar this past May in a featherweight super-fight as part of UFC Fight Night 66, which happened at the 20,000-capacity SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila.
The 36-year-old “California Kid” expressed on numerous occasions that he would like to participate at either "The Ultimate Fighter 22" finale on December 12 (December 11 in US) or UFC 194, but he struggled to secure an opponent for the organization’s blockbuster weekend.
However, Saenz (11-2) surprisingly answered Faber’s challenge as an impressive win over the veteran could improve his standing in the bantamweight rankings.
The No.14-ranked fighter from Phoenix, Arizona enters the scheduled three-round clash against Faber on a seven-match winning streak, with three of those triumphs have come inside the Octagon.
UFC 194, which takes place at the 16,800-seater MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, is headlined by the much-anticipated featherweight title unification bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.
