MANILA, Philippines - Two days after pounding Malaysia by 37 points, the Philippine team showed their dominance once again in the Southeast Asia Basketball Association Under-16 Championship, hammering Thailand by 57, 105-48, at Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines on Friday, April 17.
The win qualified the Philippines as one of the top 3 teams in the 5 team mini-tournament, earning them passage to the FIBA Asia tournament in July, which will serve as a qualifier for the Under-17 World Cup.
Sam Josef Belangel of Tay Tung High School in Bacolod City top scored with 16, while Will Gozum from UP Integrated School added 13.
The Philippines wraps up their tournament with a game against Brunei on Saturday and a meeting with Indonesia on Sunday. Brunei are currently 0-2 with a -245 point differential after 166-14 and 118-25 poundings against Indonesia and Thailand, respectively. Indonesia, who are currently 1-1, lost to Malaysia in their second game.
