MANILA, Philippines – The 2015 edition of the FIBA 3X3 World Tour will kick off in the Philippines for the Manila Masters leg from August 1-2, it was announced by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) during a press conference on Thursday, July 16, at Robinsons Place Ermita, Manila.
The Manila leg is the first of six, with Prague, Beijing, Lausanne, Mexico, and Rio de Janeiro being the other 5 cities to hold the World Tour qualifiers.
The final will take place from October 15-16 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
This year’s event will take place at Robinsons Place Manila after being held at SM Megamall in 2014.
During last season’s Manila Masters leg, the team of Terrence Romeo, Rey Guevara, Aldrech Ramos, and KG Canaleta, which was coached by NU Bulldogs head coach Eric Altamirano, beat Doha in the finals.
Romeo will be back in action in the 2015 edition along with other still unnamed teammates as one of the 3 teams that will represent the Philippines in the Manila Masters leg.
The other team remains unannounced as well, while the third is the Cebu-based champion squad of the Talk ’N Text Tatluhan Under-18 tourney.
The top two teams of the Manila Masters leg will earn a trip to Abu Dhabi, while the champion will take home $10,000 in prize money. There will also be a slam dunk contest and 3-point shootout.
