MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines-Payatas team topped Group C to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Street Child World Cup in Moscow.
The all-girls football squad hammered out a 6-0 win over India on Saturday, May 12, and edged out England by goal difference to rule the group and set a quarterfinal duel against Mauritius.
“The competition will only get tougher at this point, but our girls will surely deliver their best performance and make us all proud,” said team manager Roy Moore.
Ronalyn Lagata, who played for the Payatas team that won silver in the 2014 edition, mentors the team composed of players aged 14 to 17 years old from Payatas, Quezon City, Mandaluyong City, Benguet, Cebu, Davao, and Kalibo. – Rappler.com
