MANILA, Philippines – Ceres La Salle FC handed Kaya FC its first loss of the season, 2-1, to emerge as the victors of the battle between the undefeated teams in the United Football League (UFL) at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Saturday, March 14.
Kaya FC's back line, who played a crucial role in their undefeated run during their first four games, took a beating from the furious offense of Ceres FC in the first half.
Patrick Reichelt made his presence felt inside the box as he snuck a second chance ball past Kaya goal keeper Nick O'Donnell to take the early 1-0 lead for Ceres in the 14th minute.
The advantage of the Bacolod-based club was doubled to 2-0 after Reichelt tore through the wing to send a cross to the running Adrian Gallardo who then headed the ball to the back of the net after 21 minutes of action.
On the other end, Kaya dug deep into their to retaliate and was able to do so through OJ Porteria to cut the edge of their rivals to just a single goal, 2-1.
Adam Reekie's XI almost leveled the score when Chris Greatwich got away from the defense on an on-side run but his shot sailed high during the 47th minute.
Ceres sought to put a Kaya comeback to rest with another conversion for their side but Martin Steuble's bullet of a shot from outside the box was barred from punching through by the crossbar.
Joven Bedic, who came in as a substitute for Joshua Beloya, gave Ceres a scare in the dying moments of the game but his effort was denied by post.
Meanwhile, Pachanga Diliman FC clinched their first win after dispatching Manila Jeepney FC, 4-1, via a brace by Lee Jeung Woo. – Rappler.com
