'You've inspired many and were a great role model to us,' says Chris Tiu to his former Ateneo teammate JC Intal

Different generations of Blue Eagles paid tribute to JC Intal after the former Ateneo star announced his retirement from the PBA on Sunday, March 21, following a splendid 13-year career.

In the comments section of his emotional Instagram post, Intal was best remembered by his fellow Ateneans as a role model who served as an inspiration during his time in the UAAP and in the PBA.

“Congrats bro! Fantastic career! You’ve inspired many and were a great role model to us, younger ones – on having relentless work ethic, humility, and having so much passion!” wrote former Rain or Shine guard Chris Tiu, who played 3 seasons with Intal in the UAAP.

Meralco Bolts forward and five-time UAAP champion Nico Salva, meanwhile, looked back on the day he was first introduced to “The Rocket” in 2006 and called Intal his “favorite Blue Eagle.”

“Congrats kuya on a great career! Still remember the day in ’06 when Tito Jojo brought me to ADMU and introduced me to you,” said Salva, who played alongside Intal for Barako Bull early in his PBA career.

“You are my favorite Blue Eagle. I always looked up to you. You inspired so many young basketball players during your career,” added Salva.

In a separate post, Justin Chua also thanked his former Phoenix teammate for being his mentor.

“You’ve been nothing but a great teammate and an amazing mentor to me! I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for you,” Chua, who also won 5 UAAP titles for Ateneo, wrote in a mix of Filipino and English.

Barangay Ginebra star LA Tenorio, who shared a UAAP championship with Intal in 2002, congratulated the former Gilas Pilipinas forward.

“Congrats and good luck on the new chapter of your career, brother!” Tenorio wrote in a mix of Filipino and English.

Even much younger former Blue Eagle Thirdy Ravena joined in the comments section to honor Intal.

“Congrats Kuya JC! Happy retirement,” wrote the three-time UAAP champion and Finals MVP Ravena.

Last but not the least, Doug Kramer – who considers Intal his best friend – shared a heartfelt video of their final season together in the UAAP as a tribute to his pal.
