San Miguel drubs Globalport behind Reid’s hot shooting

MANILA, Philippines – Import Arizona Reid sizzled for 41 points as the San Miguel Beermen tarnished Globalport Batang Pier’s once perfect 3-0 record with a 124-102 drubbing in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup Sunday, May 17 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Reid scored all but two of his points in the first 3 quarters and joined forces with Marcio Lassiter in the pivotal third, combining for 35 of the Beermen’s 41-point output in that frame to break the game wide open.

The former Rain or Shine import came through with 9-of-11 makes from three-point range and a total of 16-of-28 from the field to lead San Miguel. Lassiter was reliable from the outside as well with a 5-of-7 three-point shooting clip as he finished with 24 points.

Playmaker Chris Ross, who helped set the pace for San Miguel in the opening quarter, contributed 17 markers, while Alex Cabagnot had 12.

Temporary import Steve Thomas carried Globalport with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Terrence Romeo likewise had 21 points, while former San Miguel slotman Doug Kramer added 16 markers on top of 9 boards.

The Beermen were quick to take a 41-26 lead midway in the second period, capitalizing on transition buckets and effective three-point shooting.

But the Batang Pier chipped away patiently before leaning on Romeo and Stanley Pringle, who conspired for 8 straight points to bring their squad to within 49-48.

San Miguel, however, countered right back with a strong first half finish to bring the lead back up to 61-50.

This season’s Philippine Cup champions then put on an offensive clinic in the third, which allowed them to lead by 30-point bulges in the payoff period and put the game out of reach.

The Beermen won just their second of 4 games this conference while the Batang Pier fell to second place at 3-1 behind undefeated league-leaders Alaska and Barako Bull. –
