MANILA, Philippines - The 16-man pool for Sinag Pilipinas was officially released by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on Friday, March 6.
Out of 25 who tried out these past four days, only 15 were selected by Philippine national team head coach Tab Baldwin and his coaching staff.
From the 16 pool members, which includes naturalized big man Marcus Douthit, only 12 will make the final cut to the Sinag Pilipinas team that will represent the Philippines in the 2015 SEABA and SEA tournaments.
Douthit is expected to automatically be a part of the final rosters.
Here are the 16 players who made the pool:
San Beda’s Baser Amer
FEU’s Mac Belo
UST’s Kevin Ferrer
Arellano’s Jiovanni Jalalon
NU’s Glenn Khobuntin, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., and Troy Rosario
Ateneo’s Kiefer Ravena and Thirdy Ravena
University of Perpetual Help’s Earl Scottie Thompson
DLSU’s Jeron Teng, Almond Vosotros, Norbert Torres, Prince Rivero, and Arnold Van Opstal
PBA D-League star Garvo Lanete’s “inclusion in the pool depends on his quick recovery from a recent injury,” it was mentioned in the SBP’s official press release.
The SEABA will take place from April 27-May 1 while the SEA Games is scheduled for June 9-15. Both events will be held in Singapore.
The SEABA is the qualifying tournament for the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship to be held in China this September.
Practices for the pool will commence on Monday, March 9, at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City.
“The future of Philippine basketball looks very promising,” Baldwin said via the press release.
