CJ Cansino leaves UST Tigers, eyes other UAAP teams
UST stalwart CJ Cansino parts ways with the Tigers due to 'personal reasons'

Just when things seemed to be looking up for CJ Cansino and the UST Growling Tigers, everything has now come crashing down.

As first reported by Norman Riego of ABS-CBN Sports, UST’s 6-foot-1 captain will no longer be a part of the team moving forward due to “personal reasons.”

Per the report, Cansino is now discussing with other UAAP teams, including the Ateneo Blue Eagles, National University Bulldogs and UP Fighting Maroons.

After a wildly successful seniors debut in UAAP Season 81, Cansino took a backseat to new rising star Tigers Rhenz Abando and Mark Nonoy in Season 82 while recovering from an ACL tear.

Although he still averaged 5.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists coming off the bench, his numbers still plummeted from his Season 81 norms of 12.8 points, 10.3 boards and 3.6 dimes.

Nonetheless, he was named team captain for UST’s Season 82 campaign, which ultimately ended with a UAAP Finals trip against the Blue Eagles dynasty.

Cansino has been in the Tigers’ lair since his high school days and even won the Season 80 juniors MVP award before transitioning to Ayo’s program with the seniors squad.
