De La Salle University has officially accepted the UAAP Season 83 hosting duties from the Ateneo de Manila University during the Season 82 closing ceremony on Saturday, July 25.
In a special online ceremony presented by ABS-CBN Sports, Bro Raymundo Suplido, FSC of La Salle thanked the previous hosts and officially revealed the Season 83 motto as “Fully Alive, Champions for Life.”
“It was hard fought and very challenging, but congratulations to the coaches, to the teams, to their managers and supporters and also to our host Ateneo,” Sulpido said.
“We have to move ahead and we face very challenging times for Season 83. We have to do so with courage and fortitude because many challenges are ahead of us.
“And so, for the love of sports, we have to go and challenge ourselves in order to continue to excel. It’s important we do so with resilience and courage and fortitude,” he continued. “We must plan and play, but with safety and prudence in our minds so that we do not risk the health and safety of our members.”
La Salle accepts the hosting at an extremely uncertain and difficult time in UAAP history after the previous season was prematurely terminated due to the COVID-19 pandemic last April 7.
With the exception of juniors football, juniors basketball, seniors/juniors fencing and seniors/juniors judo, no other second semester sports were able to finish nor even start their tournaments due to the implementation of enhanced community quarantine.
The UAAP intends to open Season 83 in early 2021 in alignment with the new academic calendar. – Rappler.com
