UFC: Covington dominates, takes TKO win over Woodley
Colby Covington delivers an impressive performance to beat Tyron Woodley in the much-anticipated welterweight bout

Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington (16-2) makes his case for another title shot as he took a TKO victory over Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley (19-6-1) in UFC Fight Night: Covington vs Woodley on Saturday, September 19 (Sunday, September 20, Philippine time) at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The No. 2 welterweight contender completely dominated in the much-anticipated welterweight bout and threw a mixture of strikes and takedowns before the fight was stopped due to Woodley’s rib injury.

Covington pulled away in the 4th round where he took down and pummeled the former world champion with a nasty ground and pound that opened up Woodley’s face.

The 32-year-old American fighter then immediately turned political in his post-match interview and talked trash to Joe Biden, LeBron James and the other “woke athletes” before calling out the UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman – the guy who knocked him out last December.

The Covington-Woodley bout was originally planned two years ago in UFC 228 for the welterweight title, but Covington – then the interim champion – had to undergo nasal surgery and was replaced by Darren Till.

Woodley successfully defended his title against Till but lost the UFC gold against Usman in UFC 235.

Meanwhile in the action-packed co-main event bout, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone (36-15-1, 1 NC) and Niko ‘The Hybrid’ Price (14-4-1) ended up in a draw.

Price put up a striking show in the opening round but Cerrone managed to recover in the latter part of the fight.

In other matches, Khamzat Chimaev (9-0) only needed 17 seconds to extend his undefeated stint as he finished Gerald Meerschaert (31-14) via a one-hit KO in the opening round.

Chimaev has won his first 3 UFC fights in just 66 days – the fastest 3-0 start in UFC history.

Johnny Walker (18-5) also pulled off an impressive KO victory in the 1st round against Ryan Spann (18-6) to get back in the win column, while Mackenzie Dern (9-1) displayed her mastery on the ground and booked an armbar submission win over Randa Markos (10-9). – Rappler.com
