PH men's volleyball team loses to Thailand, falls out of SEAG contention

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine men’s volleyball team fell out of contention in the 28th Southeast Asian Games after dropping to Thailand in 3 sets, 25-21, 25-16, 25-13, on Sunday, June 14, at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

It was the second straight loss for the Philippines, which was coming off a 3-set defeat at the hands of Myanmar. The team won their first game of the tournament against Malaysia in 4 sets.

Marck Espejo led the national squad with 17 points, while Peter Torres and John Vic De Guzman each contributed 6.

The Philippines was out-spiked, 41-31, and committed 22 errors while their opponents had just 14. 

The men’s team joins the women’s team in being eliminated with a 1-2 group stage record after the women’s team lost in straight sets to Vietnam on Saturday.
