MANILA, Philippines – The Pacifictown Army Lady Troopers and the BanKo Perlas Spikers booked the last two semifinal tickets in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on the last day of eliminations on Saturday, June 29, at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Pacifictown drubbed BanKo Perlas in straight sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-20, to secure the No. 3 spot with a 5-5 record and join early semifinalists PetroGazz and Creamline.
Despite the loss, the Perlas Spikers later wound up nailing the last semifinal berth after Motolite bowed to the table-topping PetroGazz in a 19-25, 15-25, 15-25 decision.
Had Motolite (3-7) pulled off an upset, it would have tied Pacifictown (4-6) and forged a playoff for the last semifinal seat.
Import Olena Lymareva-Flink fired a personal tournament-high of 29 points off 23 attacks and 6 aces to power Pacifictown.
"I knew that this game is very important for us to secure the 3rd place so I knew my team needed me," said the Ukrainian spiker.
The Creamline Cool Smashers, meanwhile, defeated the Balipure Water Defenders in straight sets, 25-19, 25-15, 25-18, in a no-bearing game in the triple-header.
Thai player Kuttika Keawpin led the team with 14 points while Alyssa Valdez, who is celebrating her 26th birthday, tallied 9 points as Creamline cruised to its ninth straight win (9-1).
Kyle Negrito also dished out 17 excellent sets to go with 5 points.
