Facebook celebrates birthday with Friends Day video, stickers

MANILA, Philippines – Facebook celebrates its 12th birthday on Thursday, February 4.

To commemorate the founding of the social network, it has come out with some special features that Facebook users can take advantage of on what the social network site calls "Friends Day."

The company said it would be rolling out a personalized video experience – available at this link – to remind users of their most fond friendships and memories.

The video experience stitches together moments with friends into a short film, and the film can be customized to show specific photos before being shared.

Two new sticker packs – "Best Friends" and "Friendship" – have also been introduced into the Facebook ecosystem. These packs are available to download via Facebook Messenger or at Facebook.com/stickers.

Fewer degrees of separation

Facebook also announced that its community continued to grow closer on a very basic level: the degrees of separation between people had gone down to 3.57 degrees from 3.74 degrees in 2011.

More commonly known as the "6 degrees of separation," it is a theory indicating that everyone is connected by 6 or fewer people to another person.

In the case of Facebook's announcement, it implies that people are now closer than ever to one another, potentially requiring fewer steps to connect one person to another by way of introduction. – Rappler.com
